Marisol, a professor of architecture in Honduras, was en route to San Francisco with her university students when she experienced medical complications. She was taken directly to the hospital from the plane and gave birth shortly thereafter. Emilia’s premature birth at 28 weeks led to complications of her jaw, requiring them both to stay in country for several months.
I so admired this new mom’s spirit and determination in the face of being separated from her other family members. It was an honor to capture her love for her new daughter and send her home with a few printed images of the beginning of Emilia’s story far from home.
